Underwater structures are common in minecraft, perhaps almost overdone. However, with all the wonderful new things brought by the IC/BC/RP mods, building underwater has never been easier! I'm posting this to gauge interest in starting a modular underwater community in the IC server. Here are some ideas I have about upgrading this minecraft staple into the modern modded world: Scaffolding makes water displacement easier then ever. Just rapidly place underwater, cover with glass, and then 'dig out' the bottom scaffolds, and the whole filling comes down in seconds! Redpower and IC lighting helps create a different atmosphere than torches Combined with a water-detection setup and redpower wiring/lighting, have lights switch to red emergency lights in case of flood Centralized power generation and distribution Harvesting glass/sand is easy. Macerate cobble into sand, and use the induction furnace to make it into glass Design will be modular. This means individual houses/pods/common areas will be separated by tunnels which hide the wiring underneath. Here are some inspirational pictures: Outside view concept (Note, the pods don't have to be dome-shaped, and should feature a lot more glass. We aren't bound by physics in minecraft ) Different outside view concept (Both can work together. I believe that many different and diverse styles would be great, instead on one or two) Interior concept Hallway/tunnel concept If you are interested, leave a post on this thread. I currently have basic fabrication facilities up and running in the workshop, and the mine shaft has been drilled. I am very accepting to both new and experienced players; you don't even have to ask permission from me to help out. If you want to set up a home for yourself in the project, you may claim up to 15x15 blocks for yourself without consulting me first. Leave at least a 3 block wide "no man's land" between all structures. Do not build above the water! All I ask is that you contribute to expanding the project, especially lengthening the access ways and upgrading the solar panels. Location is approximately 300, -500; look for the docks with the yellow light on top. See you on the server! Click here for view on DynaMap
sounds cool, i believe you're just east of where we're located so will deffo take part! need any help setting up hit me in game/on vent whenever i'm about
If you (or anyone else) is interested, feel free to come setup with me! --- Coordinates --- Shack with machines: 301, -498 Entrance way pod is just off shore, can't miss the docks! --- ToDo list --- - Beautification of entrance pod - Create a work pod - Break into the cave system below/setup a mining pod - Create above water docks and place to mount solar panels, connect to entrance pod - Community storage pod - Connecting tunnels - First housing pod?
Updates: Work pod in ugly but functional Solar tower complete Mineshaft drilled into (connects to an abandoned mine and a ravine, mostly unexplored) Some beautification completed Docks set up Two tunnels so far, ready to expand when needed To Do Tree farms Gardens (wheat, flax) Continue upgrading solar panels Redpower lighting (Emergency lighting setup to come later; needs lots of redsone) More???
Updates: Garden pod structure completed, and populated with trees. Work has started on digging downward layers to expand Third connection tunnel dug Rule room setup, should clarify things for anyone who comes by when I'm not online Solar array is over 64 EU/t, limiting factor is time to mine on my part Mass fab is set up, will use half of all energy generated by the array unless the MFSU is full. In this case, it will use all additional power as well ToDo: Plan flax, wheat, make mushroom farm. Find some pine trees for forest diversity. Expand rubber farm? Set up a harvester by the skeleton spawner Make a miner, and get all the resources under everything. Start HV wiring under all tunnels? Public tools (e.g, quantum helmet, diamond drill, batpak) to help any newcomers start off Personal house pod, so I can stop living out of the workroom
You are welcome to join up at any time. I can give you some tools to get you started; I haven't had the time to make another set of IC stuff. For now, work on getting enough materials for a diamond drill, a batpack/lappack, and a quantum helmet. Should be plenty of minerals in the mine!
Cool Ill take about 3-4 days to get set up probably with diamond drill and quantum suit see you on the server!
I have the drill, nano armour and the neccisary advanced machines. Also i visited the underwater base and I made some glass for the project.
Updates: Auto-tree farm is working, and framework is in place to expand Rubber tree area expanded All tunnels lengthened Minor cosmetic changes EU/tick is at 144. At the current (lol) rate, it's doubling every week. Foundation for a HUGE factory and laboratory set up. New people have joined! I'm not alone anymore! ToDo: Expansion of farms (pumpkin/mellon, cactus farm, second rubber farm, second flax farm, etc.) Process collected oil into fuel for trade; open negotiations. Continue work on building the factory Personal spaces! @Tyeninja has started his house! Maybe it's a pineapple under the sea, who knows? Take/post screen shots Future plans: Factory auto-processing center - dump everything into one chest, and have it spit out completed ingots, rubber, etc. Will take a lot of designing to not waste any ore. Need to investigate the additional pipes more in single player test world Redpower circuit laboratory - Test out your design with pre-made parts before you spend the time/resources crafting it all. Great for working out bugs due to chunk/server lag. Start negotiating for our fuel resources with teleport pipes. Example: You send your payment via item teleport to us; we send a prescribed amount of fuel back using waterproof pipes. Quick delivery anywhere in the world, without leaving your base!
Hello all! I am a friend of Jcool and an avid minecrafter, I am very dedicated to this project! If you would like a tour, to donate, or to join our project, just message me! I am the public relations and architect of the Underwater project in the IC server. And a correct from the previous post, I have started the WHOLE residential area, soon everyone will have their own pod!
Hi. Ive been building up my dome and have completed the outside of the large extension. I have also created a factory for making bio fuel cells for jetpacks and filling tanks for generators. I have been wondering whether the facility could use a nuclear power plant. A type 2 reactor would work as it could never explode. Also I have run some bluetric wires from the tower to the machine room, please be very careful while ripping up the floor. Oh and finally I would like to ask, do we need to have a larger base on the solar/lighthouse tower. Adamcool2011
Cool, new we can fill both the regular jetpacks as well as the electric ones! Yay! As for nuclear power, I was holding off until we can get over 300 EU/tick from the solar array. Nuclear is really expensive when it comes to iron, and it isn't renewable in the long term. However, I'd be ok with a MK 3 or better if you are willing/confident enough to set up the redpower system to keep it from exploding (a BC ice system is fine too)! If you wish to take on the project, go for it. Put it well below the work shop and leave at least a 10 block gap between the workshop level and the nuke level for future wiring space. Also, case the reactor and stuff in obsidian. Hypothetically, Kane has disabled all explosions, but better to be safe than sorry. Good luck! Finally, yes, go ahead and expand the tower. I think I left some room to expand the base of the tower as well, if you feel like that is necessary.
And also I forgot to mention it in the previous post but the bio fuel setup is able to work with reeds as well as cactus. just put reeds or cactus in the right hand chest along with tin, this will start to drain the bat-box and bio feul cells will apear in the left chest. I have not had time to test it yet as the server crashed while I was adding the finishing touches. Anyway I will see about that reactor but now I have seen the cost im starting to thing it was a daring idea. Also do you think that we need to make a set of airlocks around the place. They would use pistons and would be lockable from the inside. Mabie a 3x2 door that when opened triggerd a set of blocks to rise from the floor to block the water from entering to far. And we also need to make an auto reed farm. I can make it very efficient but I need quite abit of space. If you could mark out a room then i will get to work right away.(it would use pistons to cut of the water blocks then a big wve to move it to a collecter then deployers to place the bottom down again.) Finally (I am bad at coming to a conclusion) we need to make some sort of high power generator setup as the solars can leave the mfsu nearly drained at night. K thats all (i think) If anything else comes to mind ill let you know. ps (can I remake my dome with the stronger type of glass beacaue it looks cool)
Awesome! Semi-renewable energy! It really is a , and I feel somewhat unnecessary. If we put a ton of effort into the solar array, we could easily sustain 300~500 EU. Add in an additional MFSU and a few electrolyzers, and we should have more than enough of a buffer overnight. The current set up overflows additional energy into the Mass Fab. Good idea. I've also thought about making an air lock half in/half out of the main entrance where the reads are. Something where the outside lock is always open for you to swim in, but the inside is closed until you get in the air lock and stand on a pressure plate. That plate opens the inside and closes the outside, just like a real lock. Something like this, but more Underwater-y and GodCraft Awesome-y and piston-y. Why don't you finish mining out that other tree farm area you built, and use that space? If you cam make it vertiacal, and go all the way to bedrock that would be great. The steam engines will also burn reeds, and that is set up to go for any extras we have. Or increase the solars... we are at about 160 EU/t now, but more power is better! If you'd like, but that also takes a lot of metals... 3 each of tin, bronze, and refined iron just for 7 bits of glass. :/
Hello all! Its Tyeninja, Lead Architect of the Advanced Underwater Community project here, and I've come with pictures! Now, even if you're a lazy bum and don't feel like taking a short quantum run north of spawn to check out our base, you can take a look at it from the comfort of.. well, still your computer at home, but more specifically, the forums! Here you see the lily pad pathway to the entrance to our underwater base, you can see the lighthouse in the distance The main entrance Entrance room, still with cable on the floor (we still have work to do!) Hallway lit with ground lighting An interior view of the lighthouse, which provides us with power The Workshop, with an array of machines to make production that much easier The factory, where we refine our fuel. The factory at work An underground cactus farm, which fuels our factory Pumpkin and melon farm Other assorted farm Rubber tree farm Automatic tree farm (created by jcoolkatzerg) Wiring behind the automatic tree farm Adamcool's room The room where residential pods will stem from An interior view of the residential hallway Another view of the residential hallway A current construction site And finally a view of the base at night (So pretty!) So that's it so far guys, as you can see, there is still alot to do, and some many options of what we can do to make this community awesome! Join us on IC and follow this thread! Thats all for now!
