For those of you who have actually played a wizard more than 30 minutes....

Does the DPS/speed of the weapon you're holding effect the damage/casting speed of the magic/skills you use?

I have a 15 lol but I have a higher witch doctor. The speed of the weapon does have an effect it seems on certian spells but not all of them. Same with attack speed. So in the end slow casting means more damage per shot and the fast ones means less but more rapid fire.

This again not on all but some spells. It gets confusing but at the end the day 2h highest DPS wins most cases.

From what I have experienced with my lvl 60 wizardress, the dps shown includes both attacks per second and the actual damage per shot. I used to hold a weapon which dealt 23k with 2.7 attacks/s, dealing crits up to 22k. Now I am using a weapon dealing 25k with 1.7 attacks/s dealing crits up to 35k. The attacks where you only see a stream, the damage is shown per second anyways and not per shot, so the damage seen there doesn't differ too much between the weapons. You do see, however, a significant difference when dealing single shots with a 1.7 and a 2.7 attacks/s weapon.

So it can often be observed that increased attack speed has a higher influence on dps than intelligence or damage (on rings or gloves for example).

just seems so odd to have the physical damage on a dagger effect the magical damage you do... but I guess it makes sense to do that without a skill tree system like Diablo 2.
